Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire blogs about a Reno paper and an AP story reporting that Nevada and Colorado may be moved up in the primary schedule.
Nevada in particular is “being considered for the January vote because of its growing Hispanic population, large number of union households and booming population.”

Reuters reports on the big day online retailers are expecting on Monday:
U.S. online holiday sales are expected to hit nearly $20 billion this year and should take off on Monday, when consumers return to work and their fast Internet connections after the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Left unsaid is how much bigger the number would be if […]

Catherine Bremer of Reuters reports on the new Mexican expatriate voting plan:
A drive to get millions of Mexican immigrants in the United States to vote in the 2006 presidential election has fallen flat so far, with just 2,213 registered to vote, electoral officials said on Thursday.
…
Mexico’s electoral watchdog, IFE, says it hopes to see more […]

Robert Frank, a Cornell economics professor who co-wrote a text book with the Bush nominee for the top job at the Federal Reserve, argues in the New York Times that the next round of tax cuts being proposed woudn’t even benefit the wealthy whose taxes would be cut:
At the president’s behest, Congress has already enacted […]

Dos Centavos wanted the scoop on a Loretta Sanchez run for governor of California. Dena Bunis, a reporter for the congresswoman’s local paper, wrote a story (registration needed):
The Democratic political diva of Orange County has created “People for Loretta 2010,” a political committee that allows her to raise money for a governor’s race.

As I’ve argued before, I think the Democratic Party would benefit tremendously if New Hampshire wasn’t the first primary. New Hampshire doesn’t look anything like the rest of America. Very few Latinos, for one thing. A state like Arizona, on the other hand, has far more diversity. The last candidate who won a contested Democratic […]

The Latin Americanist writes on an issue that has always been interesting to me, namely the growing potential for Chinese economic influence south of the U.S. border:
Though many, including most recently Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, have called for measures to decrease economic dependence on the United States, little has actually been done to lessen the […]

Deb Price writes in the Detroit News that “Anti-gay politics will backfire with Hispanics.” Tell that to Texas State Representative Richard Raymond, who helped put Prop 2, the recently passed anti-gay constitutional amendment, on the ballot.
Even the Dallas Morning News, a very conservative newspaper (Bill O’Reilly’s rants notwithstanding), opposed the amendment, writing “Why on […]

I like how Charlie Cook lays out the disagreements within the national Republican Party that are all coming to the fore because President Bush is losing control:
Disagreement among Republicans on the war in Iraq is another issue that is tearing at the GOP unity in Congress. Recent ABC News/Washington Post polling showed that roughly two-thirds […]
