Public Concern about Illegal Immigration in California

John Marelius of the Union-Tribune reports on a recent Field Poll:
Although illegal immigration is emerging as one of the hottest topics of the 2006 election, public concern about the issue in California has declined over the past decade, according to a new Field Poll.
In 1996, 53 percent of adult Californians questioned by the nonpartisan Field Poll said they were “extremely concerned” about illegal immigration. In a poll of 500 adult Californians conducted last month, 43 percent reported a similar degree of concern.
